i have tried it several years ago on gar fish in the st jojns river over towards poalatka fla, we used the eggs for bream fishing, caught a boat load of bream on the eggs, back in the day you could sell the eggs and the carp was used to fertlize plants by the ole timers just like fish guts was heads and back bones as well, those gar got to be quite large and the bow was was quite old style i now think back must have looked like some kind of friggnn indian shooting fish this was back in the early 5o's

My brother and I got hooked on it back in the 80's. We put away the fishing poles for several years while we got it out of our system. Shot lots of nice gar/ carp/ mullet.

I think those are called silver grass carp. Another non-native invasive species slowly making its way through our countries waterways. They are agitated by the boat motors and jump like that. They've gotten so bad on some rivers that people have actually up up "shields" to protect themselves. Getting hit by a 30 lb fish while travelling at 20-30 mph isn't a great experience I suppose.

On topic though, I think bowfishing is a great way to spend the day and loads of fun.

Those are the fish that they have in the Illinois River. See that on story on CNN about them?? It was crazy!!

I am for harvesting fish with a bow. I say if it swims and you can hit, it should be legal to shoot. Good luck with picking it up. You're gonna need a steady arm

Bow Fishing:

It's where everyone learns to fish. It's reserved for kids, teenagers and anyone who has gone short on the gas fund following a prior trip. If you're new on a boat, you're going to Bow Fish. It usually comes with the "honor" of getting to pull the anchor up, whether an anchor ball is present or not.

So, buy yourself a boat or make sure you contribute graciously to the gas fund of someone else's boat in order to Stern Fish or else you'll be stuck Bow Fishing, if you're lucky.

I'll support your effort to Bow Fish; but I personally prefer Stern Fishing.
