I'm looking at a backup to my hard-wired GPS as a backup and to carry on buddy boats. Anyone have a good experience with any certain models?

I'm sure you'll hear from lots of folks and there are a lot of options out there, but I am a firm believe in the Garmin products. I have a Garmin 176C that I purchased over 10 years ago that I still use for navigation and back up to my mounted unit. One night when the fog rolled in really bad I was able to navigate home from the GOM by plotting my course from marker to marker with little to no visibility. Can't go wrong with Garmin GPS IMO.

FYI: I paid $350 for mine years ago.. So I already told you the deal.
comparing my 76CX to a regular 76. I did this with joel aka Murphery's Law. The 76CX is Color the standard 76 is Black & White. In the CX the batteries lasted a Hell of a lot longer. Oh....And you get what you pay for.....Think Garmin! |

Too bad Garmin does not make the 276 series anymore. I love mine. Portable yet big enough for every day use.
