Could have been an old water logged piling floating partially submerged. Do you have Insurance?

I played this game two years ago. Out of Navy Point, two days after Hurricane Dennis. We were in the channel where it goes close to the point just before you get into the bay, so was some unseen piece of debris. Apparent result: mangled prop and broken skeg. We changed prop there in the water and went on to fish.Seemed to run OK, but when we did the lower unit oil change at the end of the season it was full of water.Had a bent prop shaft. Ruined the bearings and seals. Destroyed the lower unit. (I was really suprised how long it ran with a lower unit taking on water.) Two suggestions for a lower unit: Used, try E-Bay. For a new/rebuilt unit try Iboats.com.

Be careful around the Mass this time of year also. I hit a piece of it almost 200 yards to the southeast, luckilyI was just idiling put a good nick in the skeg. I guess it was a piece the hurricanes had broken off. Brought the boat to a stop.
