I also got my first oilfield job through a head hunter. He took $1200.00 of my first 90 days. After that, I wrote down every company's name from every offshore company I encountered. I'm not saying the fellow ripped me off, it just cost me the $1200. I never once paid for a job after that. I also discovered that the company that hired me through him would have paid $30 more per day if I had just applied through them instead of the HH. Live and learn. Before driving to S. La., I would collect a list of potential employers and tell them you'll be dropping by. I got a job once through a company that simply refered me to another company.
