As little as a few hours will destroy the engine.

You can always go buy a new engine, but..... why?

As noted take the plug out, drain the oil and gas (including the float bowl on the carb), spray a bunch of WD40 down the plug hole, pull it through a bunch of times, spray a goodly amount of WD40 in there again, put new gas and oil in it and GET IT RUNNING RIGHT NOW.

Then drain the oil and change it AGAIN.

Repeat the oil change 2-3 times; you have to get ALL the water out of there or it will do severe damage to the engine.

Seriously - you need to take care of this TONIGHT. Typically within a few hours if after it comes out of the water if you don't - its toast.
