Testing, Testing!
Went out late yesterday afternoon to try out my $100 depthfinder. I launched at Ward Basin and trolled the channel (6'-8') out of the Basin over to Yellow River with no hits. I trolled up Yellow River, which was still high and muddy with a 53 degree water temp and "looked" in the first deep hole (25') at the "Y" to see if the Humminbird would "mark" any fish, which it did, so I worked a Rattletrap around the area for a while with no results. I then ranout tothe channel in the bay and trolled as far south as Weaver River outlet, still no results. It was getting late so I headed to the I-10 bridge for a look see and the Humminbird was marking fish all over under the bridge at 8' in 11'-12' of water. They turned out to be speckled trout that were reluctant to hit, I got 4 in about 40 minutes, but they were ALL 14" long! I caught them on a Rapala diving shad and Storm swim jigs. They might have "turned on" had I stayed longer, but, I didn't dress warm enough. The baywasglass and there was lots of Loons and Commorants , as well as huge flocks of gulls. I am very happy with the performance of the Humminbird 170.
