As far as i know HPS (High presure sodium) lights are AC voltage only, So you would need a gen or a battery/inverter setup. I know they are sort of like a flourescent light in that it takes a while for them to start up, like your street light. I talked to you about my set up already, i borrowed your idea to change the bulbs on the starfire lites to 100 watts they are brite. Even with 2 100watt bulbs the battery will still last about 5 1/2 hours. With my set up it will put out about 2000 lumens. I did some research and the HPS bulbs put out aprox 100 lumens per watt thats good, 100 watts = 10,000 lumens. That would have to be a boat set up. Plus the color of the light is kinda orenge color.
