I didn't realize a visual distress signal was required...what else fits this requirement besides flares? I read a tip on the forum a while back that has come in handy. I use frozen water bottles for my cooler bag. This really works to keep the fish cold, and if my trip last longer than expected, the melted water comes in handy to quench your thirst.
