You have to look closely at the rubber hub for ANY rubber that seems torn, bubbled, ripped, etc. If you see anything that looks like that, your hub is more than likely spun. The adjustment is for the shift linkage. It may not be adjusted so that the engagement point for forward and reverse are the same. If the cable is worn too much, there will be too much play. Check to be sure the linkage is staight up when in neutral when shifted from both directions. If it is too far in reverse, there will not bee enough engagement into forward and it could jump gear. However, usually when that occurs, the gear will try to jump back in gear and you will hear it. Unless the cable is that work or the control box is worn/loose. Hope this helps.
