RE: Cheap People
When i was in college, I made a freaking mint waiting tables and serving wine at a couple high end joints in Austin. It was awesome - 5-11 3-4 nights a week and making a minimum of $100 per night back in 88 - 90. I sometimes made as much as $400 on a good night and probably averaged $200 on any Friday. Plus, I got to eat killer food, drink cheap beer at the end of the night and hang out with some pretty hot chicks and decent people. Surely, I wasn't the world's greatest waiter, but what I did that I can assure you alot of "servers" today don't do was know the menu and give a shit if the patron enjoyed themselves.
15-20% on drinks is the easiest money you can ever make as a waiter. You keep the glasses full and sell a bottle of champagne or wine and there's an extra $20 per table minimum and all you've got to do is care. I am personally put off by todays chain BS of "hi, im idiotboy and I'll be your sever." I don't care what your name is, just get me a tall Ketel and soda with no fruit and don't let them run out. Don't talk to me while I'm talking and No! I don't know what I want until I've read the menu and I want my drink before you ask if I know what I want.
